Velvetleaf Beadworks
A local Métis artisan was interested in creating a visual identity for her beadwork business. She was unsure of what name or direction she wanted to take, so I went through her story and family history to see if we could find a starting point. Picking wild velvetleaf blueberries as a child was a special memory for her, so I chose the name Velvetleaf Beadworks.
The logo is in a radial repeat pattern, to symbolize the repetitive flow of the beads and echo elements of traditional Métis designs. The three main blueberries represent parts of the artist’s life: her Métis identity, and her familial roots in both Manitoba and Newfoundland. The lines of the leaves allow the eye to move around the pattern, creating gentle movement like the soft sway of the earring designs she makes.
Brand assests include earring cards, small address labels, a single-colour stamp, and a large round packaging label.
