Economic Development Winnipeg Publications
During my time as the Graphic Designer for Economic Development Winnipeg (EDW), I worked on numerous publications for the various teams. This included information sheets, brochures, guides, reports, and magazines. Even though the three branches of the organization (Corporate, Tourism and YES!) had different colour palettes, I made sure their layout styles worked to complement each other.
Image 1: YES! Winnipeg Quality of Life info sheet
The sales team wanted this information to work on a double-sided sheet, so I broke up the copy and created a modular layout. The benefit of this layout was that it could be modified as information changed over the years. I utilized charts, icons and photos to break up large amounts of copy.
Image 2: YES! Winnipeg Investor Opportunities brochure
This brochure was used as a sales tool to bring local investors on board. The brochure showcases the different investment levels and what perks are included at each level. The copy was laid out in a table format, and given separate colours that are used throughout other YW investor marketing pieces.
Image 3: Tourism Winnipeg Tour Guide
This brochure is very popular with tourists because it shows every tour you can take in Winnipeg. Each listing is from a different tour company, so there can be variations in each block of copy which was visually confusing in the Word document. I typeset the copy to create visual repetition and flow that makes it easier for the reader to find the information. I also used icons in each tour listing so the reader can quickly see the type of tour, such as walking or culinary.
Image 4: EDW Brand Standards
When I started at EDW, the organization had a very limited brand guide that only gave information about the logo. Over the years, I built out the brand style and assets that were utilized successfully in all our marketing materials. As we started to send projects out to external agencies, I realized we needed a comprehensive brand standards guide to help them build our materials. I wrote and laid out the entire guide and worked with the Communications Manage to add a writing style and grammar section. This guide has been successfully used by internal and external groups to build the EDW brand.
